Manager, Software Engineering

The Opportunity
A high-growth Calgary fintech company is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to lead a team building customer-facing mobile applications and the backend services that support them.

This role combines people leadership, technical direction, and delivery ownership in a high-availability environment where reliability, performance, security, and intuitive user experiences are critical.

The Impact You’ll Have

You’ll lead an engineering team responsible for products and systems that support real-time, business-critical transactions.

Your leadership will help shape technical direction, strengthen engineering practices, and ensure customer-facing applications and supporting services remain reliable, secure, and scalable.

What You’ll Do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 5–8 software engineers.

• Partner closely with Product, Design, DevOps, and Security to translate product goals into clear technical plans and delivery milestones.

• Guide technical direction, design reviews, implementation planning, architecture, and engineering standards across mobile applications and supporting APIs.

• Balance new feature delivery with platform investment, technical debt, performance, security, and operational reliability.

• Own the health of production systems, including observability, incident response, SLAs, CI/CD, automated testing, and on-call improvements.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of experience managing software engineers, ideally mobile-focused teams, with demonstrated success coaching and developing strong engineers.

• 5+ years of prior hands-on software development experience, with meaningful native or hybrid mobile expertise.

• Strong technical depth in modern mobile development; experience with Kotlin, Swift, and/or Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) is highly valued.

• Experience delivering customer-facing applications where reliability, scalability, performance, and security are critical.

• Strong cross-functional leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with Product, Design, DevOps, and senior engineering stakeholders.

• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, builder-oriented environment with high ownership and accountability.
